ARUBA30x30 OFFSHORE

Introduction
The ocean provides food and jobs, supports tourism, helps regulate the climate, and sustains marine life. However, pollution, damaging activities, overuse and climate change put pressure on the ocean.

“30 by 30” is a global target to protect at least 30% of the world’s land and ocean by 2030. Aruba has committed to this target through its National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP). Aruba manages approximately 25,267.81 km² of ocean within its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), while its existing coastal Marine Protected Areas cover approximately 0.24% of this marine area.
This public consultation is an initiative of the Government of Aruba, with the Directorate of Nature and Environment (DNM) responsible for coordinating the consultation.

This public consultation focuses specifically on the protection of Aruba’s offshore waters, beyond the existing coastal Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). Through this survey, you are invited to evaluate four possible offshore protection scenarios and provide feedback to inform future decision-making for the designation of an offshore MPA.
This survey concerns offshore waters, from 5 km off the coast to the outer boundary of Aruba’s waters. The area within 5 km of the coast will be considered through a separate consultation planned for 2027.
This survey contains 29 questions and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete, depending on how much detail you wish to provide.
